The Emotional Root Cause of Thyroid Disease:

Demo DiMartile

You are never given anything in life that you cannot handle. Everyone comes into this lifetime with a psychic wound that needs to be healed in order to transcend the struggle, evolve and grow. When you embrace the wound, it becomes a gift and the very thing that will make you whole. If you see the wound as a stigma, and you are ashamed of it, you cannot truly belong to yourself or anyone else. Shame breeds the fear of not belonging. It disconnects you from yourself and makes you feel undeserving and afraid of being seen or heard.

Shame is the emotional root cause of thyroid disease, and shame causes deep seated feelings of unworthiness. Unworthiness produces a lack of self-acceptance and self- esteem, and it can be summed up by an overall feeling of “I’m not good enough.” which leaves you in an state of constant insecurity. Fear disconnects you from your courage, your core beliefs and numbs your instincts. The psychological effects of the internal struggle with unworthiness triggers disturbances within your thyroid function which can leave you, stressed out, overwhelmed and constantly feeling vulnerable.

Shame also creates guilt and guilt locks you into beliefs that keep you hostage to inequality. You know the cliches, “It’s a Man’s World.” which means men control it… and… everything in it.

“Women are the weaker sex.” “Men take care of women.” and “women are dependent upon men.” In the work place, men are valued more than women and paid more for the same types of jobs that women can easily perform. The message is, women are lesser than men and don’t deserve the same pay. Therefore, women are not equal… and anyway, men are more intelligent than women even though women have higher IQ’s.

Male dominance has oppressed women for ages. Shaming is an abusive and traumatic form of control. It has been used to belittle, degrade, humiliate, harass, intimidate, and put women down. Women are seldom respected for their point of view, and they have little voice to be heard, or validated.

When you loose your voice, you loose your self, and when you feel your story is not worthy of being told, you stop dreaming.

But take heart! This is the Age of awakening and Women are about to take back the mantle of power. In a very short time, it will no longer be a Man’s world as Women rise into positions of power.

The physiology of the human body reveals the exquisite intelligence behind its design. The thyroid gland, crafted in the shaped of a butterfly, sits on the windpipe just above the thymus gland and below the voice box. The butterfly is a symbol of transformation and transcendence. It evolves from the vulnerable earth bound caterpillar and transforms itself into a butterfly.

It is a fitting symbol for the thyroid’s function which is to transform food into life sustaining energy.

In spiritual anatomy, the thymus gland is considered the etheric heart. It is the place from which intent emanates and fosters courage, compassion, and forgiveness which are essential for healthy thyroid function and a healthy self esteem. The voice box produces sound vibration which is an amplification of the soul’s intent to give voice to your inalienable right to speak your truth and be heard. When shame and unworthiness inhabit your soul, they inhibit your voice and disturb thyroid function. A repressed voice needs to be owned and expressed. There is one qualification, that the voice be spoken with courage, compassion and forgiveness… not shame, anger or retaliation.

There are over 50 million American Women who suffer from thyroid disease. They are at the end of the chrysalis stage of transformation in their evolution and on the verge of ascending into their spiritual power. Imagine 50 million Women embracing their psychic wound and coming together empowered as one voice to prepare the way for future generations of women to speak their hearts and minds with dignity and self respect. Reclaim your inner voice and you’ll regain your self worth. This is the Women’s way to self empowerment and liberation.

Your inner voice speaks to you through gut feelings, and you reclaim your inner voice by listening to and trusting your feelings. Acting upon your feelings substantiates self worth, and strengthens your inner resolve. It is through your empathy that you derive passion, strength, self validation and regain your outer voice. Fearlessly make the commitment to speak up, and speak out. Own your self worth and demand nothing less than equality. That is your birth right.

What follows is meditation, not medication and there is a great difference between healing from within and treating symptoms. Meditation goes to the root cause of disease, releases stress and  restores balance. Medication treats the effects not the cause of dis-ease. Meditation is one of the most powerful and restorative practices for opening your heart, overcoming stress, promoting peace of mind and emotional well being. Meditation connects you to the deepest parts of your soul where all true healing takes place, and It is the connection with your soul that gives validation, purpose and a sense of belonging to life.

Meditation brings you directly into the heart of your subconscious mind which is the master control center for all bodily functions, all glands, all organs and all systems. The subconscious holds the blueprint for radiant health, and holds the internal code to reestablish harmony and balance.

The human body is a highly sophisticated creation that is engineered for self-healing. Everything in the body is set up to self correct and sustain vibrant health and well being.

Why I Created the Hormonal Balance Meditation

I am often asked what motivated me to create the Hormonal Balance Guided Meditation. I wanted to explain why.

From my work with Hypnotherapy, I witnessed first hand the power of the subconscious mind to regulate all systems in the body and promote healing on the physical, mental, psychological, and spiritual levels.

The Meditation was designed to support and comfort women as they move through the many stages of  hormonal change, from puberty, to pregnancy, into motherhood, postpartum and menopause.

I realized it was needed when I learned from my friends and colleagues, Dana Trentini and Mary Shomon, about their new book, now published, Your Healthy Pregnancy with Thyroid Disease. Both women are distinguished thyroid patient advocates and experts, and together, they have created an extraordinarily guide filled with support, deep experiential understanding, and practical tools that inform and empower women for the  best hormonal health.

In their book, Dana and Mary make the point that medication, diet and other lifestyle changes need to be accompanied by a shift in mindset —  getting to a place where you trust that your body can become pregnant, sustain a pregnancy, and deliver a healthy baby. They both felt that more tools are needed to help women achieve that shift.

My new CD/MP3, the Hormonal Balance, Restoring Inner Peace And Power helps you to shift your mind set by giving you a mind-body tool for realigning and healing your endocrine gland system.

As a woman, you are always going through hormonal changes. It all begins when you’re an adolescent stage, with the start of your menstrual cycle and for many of you, progresses into pregnancy, motherhood and postpartum, and eventually, you evolve into a wise woman during menopause.

These passages, while natural, can also be challenging times when you experience severe symptoms of stress, high anxiety, depression and intense hormonal changes that dramatically impact you and trigger deep psychological changes in your self-esteem, self-image and self-acceptance.

Stress is a major contributor to hormonal imbalance, and the root cause of stress is FEAR. Think about it.

When you are frightened or anxious, fear triggers your natural defense mechanism, called the fight-or-flight response. Your hypothalamus gland, responsible for maintaining the body’s internal balance, signals the pituitary gland to stimulate your adrenal glands to release two key stress hormones: cortisol and adrenaline. This triggers a chain reaction throughout your endocrine system that influences all your glands and your thyroid in particular. The greater the fear, the greater the stress. The greater the stress, the more the cortisol and adrenaline are released. Excess stress hormones send you on the rollercoaster ride that leaves you feeling totally out of control, overwhelmed, exhausted and always on high alert for some looming threat to your health or well-being.

Such is the biological nature and psychological process for women. Can you imagine how much more joyful your life would be without a constant flood of stress hormones – a hormonal hangover so to speak? There is no need to imagine. You can make it happen, with meditation.

Meditation is a proven process for accessing the immense healing energy of your subconscious mind. Your subconscious regulates and controls your bodily functions. As you embrace the power of your subconscious mind, you’ll begin to realize your true potential to self-heal your body, mind, heart and hormones. It is healing at its best, the natural way, from the inside out.

Guided meditation takes you effortlessly into a deep state of absolute calm for this is where you truly restore your soul. You’ll quiet the internal struggle and the fight-or-flight response as you accept your biological process and its purposefulness. It is here that you’ll renew your spirit and experience clarity of intention, focus, motivation, resilience and self-acceptance to bring forth your very best.

Hormonal Balance Meditation enables you tap your body’s natural healing ability to regulate and repair itself, improve your mental outlook, and your psychological and physical well being.

While in this deep restful state, the natural intelligence of your body works to restore your hormonal balance while significantly reducing depression, mood swings, mind fog, fatigue and insomnia that drain your vitality and wellbeing.

The benefits are truly amazing! Just by being in the meditative state, your mind becomes still clear and calm. Fear and anxiety subside. Your heart rate relaxes as your blood pressure regulates itself into a normal range. Brain wave activity slows down and triggers human growth hormones, which regulate your metabolism, stimulate fat cells to reduce the amount of stored fats, promote protein synthesis in your cells, and regulate your blood sugar.

Your adrenal glands rest and stop overproducing the stress hormones, helping your thyroid and metabolism.Your endocrine system moves out of a state of high alert. Thyroid, adrenals, and sex hormones now have an opportunity to come back into balance.

Meditation also decreases inflammation at the cellular level, neutralizing acidosis and minimizing pain and discomfort. You’ll feel calm and more confident in touch with your own strength and power. That awful feeling of being vulnerable or overwhelmed subsides. Psychologically, you feel more self-assured and in control again.

The mind-body-spirit connection is now realigned and you experience “Ahhh…” – that peace of mind and a renewed sense of wellness.

image2By re-establishing calm throughout your mind and body, you can quell the inner turmoil and move into that ‘feels great to be alive place.” The unimaginable power of meditation can improve and restore hormonal stability and thyroid function. It can also help you to have greater control over your health and wellbeing.

Whether you are planning to get pregnant, are pregnant now, or you’ve recently had a baby, meditation can and should be an important part of taking care of yourself, as well as your baby.

Change your heart and you’ll change your belief. Change your belief and you’ll change your mind. Change your mind and you can embrace a happy, healthy life – not only your own, but that of your current and future children.

A Dynamic Duo For Thyroid Support

Your Healthy Pregnancy & Hormonal Balance

Are you always feeling tired, sometimes wired and most often uninspired? Over 60 million Americans suffer from some form of insomnia or experience restless nights. Sleep deprivation is a living nightmare! Overtime, it can significantly weaken your immune system with serious consequences to your health that can lead to habitual sleeplessness, high blood pressure, and arrhythmia.

Lack of sleep increases stress levels and decreases your energy, endurance and resilience. Stress and anxiety upset the adrenal function, which over-produces cortisol and adrenaline and sends your hormonal system on the dreaded rollercoaster ride. Excessive cortisol reeks havoc on your thyroid gland and its function to regulate metabolism, breakdown fats and convert food into revitalizing energy. A dysfunctional Thyroid gland results in fatigue and lethargy which create sugar cravings that lead to unwanted weight gain.

Loss of sleep is the root cause of restlessness, irritability, and agitation. Sleepless nights upsets the body’s acid-alkaline balance essential for good health. When the body becomes acidic it is a precursor to arthritic pain and gradually accelerates the aging process.

Inadequate Sleep results in depression, apathy, brain fog, and dulls your cognitive function leading to forgetfulness and obsessive thinking. Poor sleep effects you ability to focus and impairs judgement. It also mutes imagination, creativity and your inner voice. Sleepless nights deplete your energy reserve and negatively impact daytime productivity, self-confidence and self-image. It can also dampens your Libido. You are simply not at your best.

A good night’ sleep refuels every gland, and organ in your body on a deep cellular level to enhance the quality of your life. Quality sleep promotes a healthy body, a clear mind and an enthusiastic spirit.

Sleep is food for your soul. Quality Sleep nourishes the body, calms the mind and is essential for replenishing your core energy. Deep sleep resets your biological clock to produce new brain cells that bring back a lively awareness to your mind and a super positive outlook to your life.

Sleep is a habit. Besides diet and exercise, we all need quality restorative sleep to function at our best. If you don’t have a good nights sleep you’ll experience tossing and turning, inability to turn off mind and compulsive thinking, frequently waking up and not able to get back to seep. Habits can be changed.

Your Pineal Gland is the most important gland for sleep. The gland sits in the center of your brain. It is called “the fountain of youth” because the gland secretes both serotonin and melatonin hormones. Serotonin influences billions of brain cells and regulates all hormones to preserve the body’s balance and sustain its energy throughout the day. At bedtime, and during meditation, the pineal gland releases melatonin, and melatonin regulates the sleep cycle and helps move you through the 4- stages of sleep. As we age the pineal gland becomes calcified largely due to fluoride in our water system and in toothpaste. Calcification diminishes the pineal gland’s effectiveness in supplying melatonin for deep restful rejuvenating sleep. Humming and chanting help to decalcify the pineal gland.

  • Eat a light and early dinner.
  • Take a walk. Light exercise, stretching or yoga after dinner helps digestion.
  • Refrain from alcohol and caffeine 5 hours before bedtime.
  • Turn off all blue light devices such as computers, cell phones, TV, and Tablets 1 hour before bedtime. They send a message to the brain that it is not time for sleep and inhibit the release of melatonin.
  • A dark room sends a message to your pineal gland that it is time to sleep.
  • Use a face mask to keep out light and get at least 8 hours of quality sleep.
  • Sleep in a clean tidy room with fresh linens.
  • Never go to bed angry.

The Amazing Benefits of Guided Meditation

Take Back your Power and Take Control of Yourself and Your Life!

By Demo DiMartile, One Light One Spirit.

The amazing benefits of  meditation and deep relaxation are all over the news. Yet we live in the fast lane of an ever-changing world, and every day we face enormous challenges. Balancing family, finances, career, relationships, and the world in which we live is an endless struggle. Struggle is the basis of conflict, and it produces high anxiety and stress, the killjoys of life. And with anxiety and stress, we feel out of control and our self-esteem plummets.

We end up living in our heads from fear when we were created to live from our hearts from love.

It has been said that everything is within us; the peace, the power and the transformative presence of love to live a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life.

But how do we get from a place of stress and anxiety, to connect with that place of peace and power within. How do we restore balance and reclaim our innate power to live freely and fully?

What is Meditation?

Meditation is the practice for aligning the body, mind and spirit by going within to utilize the power of your belief to create what you truly desire.

Guided meditation, deep relaxation and mind-body techniques are not passing fads or New Age nonsense. They are thourghly researched and proven approaches that have lasting benefits for your health, happiness and self-empowerment.

How Does Guided Meditation Work?

With guided meditation, you don’t need to know how to meditate. All that’s required is that you listen, and you’ll glide effortlessly into the depths of your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind has control over the 37.2 trillion cells of your body. It also controls and connects all 12 systems that keep you alive and functional, including the cardiovascular (heart) system, endocrine, respiratory, nervous, immune, circulatory, digestive, lymphatic (detoxing), muscular, skeletal, reproductive and urinary systems. That is truly impressive and should not be taken for granted.

Your subconscious mind is a power plant of raw creative energy that can be harnessed and directed toward healing, self-improvement and even help you achieve spiritual growth and evolution.

Your subconscious operates on belief. It is tuned in, 24/7, to your thoughts, words, feelings, attitudes and moods, and it will respond to all of them — even if they are contradictory or negative.

You must be mindful and disciplined not to feed your subconscious mind with negative thoughts or negative speech. (“I’m tired. I’m bored. I give up. I can’t. I will never heal.”) Whatever you hold in your thoughts, it will be heard by your cells and body, and manifest as your reality.

Your job is to consciously implant a consistently clear Intention or picture of your desired goal such as “I radiate perfect health and wellbeing!” That way, your subconscious mind will conspire with your desire to manifest your intention – as long as you believe it.

Meditation is a the natural  way to access the power of your subconscious mind, and forge those intentions, pictures and positive goals into your imagination and your experience. This is the intelligence of divine design  in every soul.

    • They slow down brain wave activity and trigger human growth hormones (HGH) . HGH help regulate your metabolism, stimulate fat cells to reduce the amount of stored fats, promote protein synthesis in the cells, and play a role in regulating your blood sugar.
    • They help calm the adrenals and allow them to rest, relieving them from over-producing adrenaline and cortisol — the stress hormones — which can have a devastating effect on your thyroid function and ability to lose weight.
    • They move your endocrine system out of a state of high alert. Hormonal secretions become regulated and all of your hormonal systems — thyroid, adrenals, sex hormones — have an opportunity to come back into balance.  In short, that is what it means to restore your soul.
For more information, see the Thyroid Meditation: Transforming Stress Into Well-Being

  • What are the Hormonal and Cellular Effects of Meditation?  Both guided meditation and deep relaxation have a number of amazing effects on your hormones and your body.
  • They provide true physiological relaxation. Your body truly rests, and that’s when you restore balance and vitality throughout your entire body. That is not always the case with sleep. Meditation also improves the quality of your sleep.
  • Meditation alkalizes your system, balancing out acidity caused by stress that has accrued through the overactivity of your analytical mind and the fear-based thinking that triggers and perpetuates stress hormones.
  • Meditation decreases inflammation at the cellular level neutralizing acidosis and minimizing pain.

Just by being in a meditative state, your mind becomes still, clear and reflective. Fear and anxiety, the two major causes of stress, subside. Your heart rate slows down as your blood pressure regulates itself into a “normal range.” You feel calm and more confident, in touch with your own strength and power. That awful feeling of being vulnerable or overwhelmed subsides. Psychologically you feel more self-assured and in control again. The mind-body connection is now aligned and you experience that, “Ahhhh….” – peace of mind and sense of well-being.

As you deepen your meditative state and practice regularly, you’ll find that meditation:

  • Alleviates anxiety, depression, and negative attitudes
  • Reduces fatigue and exhaustion
  • Slows down your biological clock so you can age more gracefully
  • Puts you in touch with your confidence, joy, enthusiasm, and self- worth
  • Evolves your DNA
  • Improves and actually changes your brain

Change your heart and you change your belief. Change your belief and you change your mind. Change your mind and you will see the infinite possibilities to change your world from within.

Guided Meditation and relaxation are powerful tools for taking back your power and having greater control over yourself and you life!

10 Reasons Guided Meditations Will Help You to Be Your Best

You don’t need a rigorous, time-consuming practice to feel the many proven and life-changing benefits of meditation. And you don’t need costly or extensive training in meditation techniques. Guided meditation provides all the benefits of meditation so you can simply relax anywhere you are comfortable — in bed, on a sofa, in a chair, on a beach, even in a hammock — and just listen.

Let’s take a look at 10 reasons guided meditations will help you feel and be your best, everyday.

It calms your nervous system, quiets your mind chatter, and relaxes your muscles. Guided Meditation melts away emotional distress and reduces cellular oxidation which is a major cause of disease.

Actually guided meditation promotes positive emotions including confidence, happiness, enthusiasm, self-acceptance and mindfulness. It helps balance your neurotransmitters, bringing you greater calm while enhancing intimacy, passion and motivation.

Immune Health: Guided meditation stimulates your thymus gland. This gland regulates your body’s immune defense system by boosting white cells to fight off disease and infection in order to sustain optimal health.

Releasing Stress For Greater Success

Everyone wants to be a success in life, but it definitely comes with a price. It seems the more you strive to reach our goals, the more stress you encounter.

Stress saps your efforts, dulls productivity and it is the root cause of so many health problems and so much unhappiness.

Why? Because stress is rooted in fear. Whether it be a fear of failure or fear of success, fear of lack, rejection, being bullied or not being good enough, fear eats away at self-esteem causing an internal conflict and a belief that life is a struggle. Struggle implies you are working against yourself and that inevitably disconnects you from yourself. Struggle blinds you to the inner resources that keep you true to yourself and makes you look for success, love and happiness outside of yourself and in all the wrong places.

There is a powerful remedy for stress and that is Meditation. Meditation is the key to handling both the stress and the struggle and helps you to master deep relaxation. This is not another another technique you have to learn. This is guided meditation. Meditation helps brings you back to your authentic self. It reconnects you to your core power by enabling you to be successful, thrive and enjoy the journey.

Let’s look at the elements of meditation that produce relaxation and will help you to overcome the stress and struggle by getting you back in touch with your innate power.

Yes Breath! Have you ever noticed when you’re stressed out or uptight, you’ll hold your breath or in some cases stop breathing?

Breath fuels life. When you breathe in, your breath carries the life renewing oxygen that enlivens and energizes your cells. As you breathe out, your breath releases the pent-up pressure and accumulated stress stored in the cells and relaxes your entire body.

For the purposes of mastering deep relaxation, the longer your exhalation the deeper your relaxation. The deeper your relaxation, the more you will release stress. The more you release tension and stress, the more you will regain inner peace. When you are at peace with yourself, you will flow with the natural rhythms of life. And that means you are reconnected to yourself and your power.

Love has no fear!

When you Consciously connect to your heart, you’ll begin to experience being in the moment. As you inhale fully and exhale completely, you’ll begin to open your heart to embrace the love that you’ve been given and the love that you have to give.

Love is the essence of who you are. As your breath and your love intertwine, they creating an energetic shift that allows you to surrender your ego. Surrender is not giving up. Rather it is letting go of your analytical mind so that you can relax and embrace life from love. In other words, you are shifting your awareness from thinking into being. It takes courage to lead from your heart.

This practice is used by the masters to relax deeply and move into a place of self mastery and wholeness. Love is wholeness and has a magnetic resonance that will raise your vibration dramatically to evolve your soul and enliven you spiritually.

As you breathe in, you are sending life force into your tissues. As you slowly exhale, you will release the built up lactic acid stored in your muscles and melt the tension and stress away. You’ll begin to relax as your muscles loosen and your body sinks slowly into the chair dissolving any and all stress.

Breathing in, you’ll continue to use the revitalizing power of you breath to calm down your nervous system. As you breathe out, you’re nerves will unwind, let go and release all the pressure and tension. You’ll decompress as your nerves relax, dropping the resistance and dissolving the stress away.

Breath has a profound effect on your mind. As you breathe into your brain, it will soften and turn down the mental chatter. As you exhale, your mind settles down becoming clear and focused and you’ll experience what is called mindfulness.

At this point your body is relaxed. Your nerves are calm and your mind becomes still, clear and peaceful. A sense of calm comes over you as you go deeper and deeper into relaxation.

You’re mind begins receding from the outer world. You’ll start to detach from all problems, letting go of all worries and doubts, and tuning out the tapes in your head.

You’ll begin drifting away as you enter into that quiet solitude within where you feel relaxed, in harmony and at peace with yourself. You are drifting to the shores of your subconscious mind and approaching the gateway to inner peace. Moving into the realm of personal power fully integrated in your body, mind, and spirit, you are now ready to tap the rejuvenating powers of deep relaxation

Meditation brings you directly into the depths of your subconscious mind which is the master control center for improving your life. The subconscious is your inner genie and holds the blueprint for mastering deep relaxation and being successful. It also contains the internal code for programming your beliefs for success without the stress. Whatever your mind can conceive, it can achieve so long as you believe. The power of your mind is extraordinary.

You have now accessed the power of your creative mind, which is the seat of all inspiration and unlimited possibilities. Drawing from that power, you can now embrace your internal genie knowing that you are the master of your life and circumstances. As you immerse yourself in the feeling that you are fearless and free, whatever decisions you make, they will be will made with clarity and conviction and be the right ones for you!

Now project a positive self image on the screen of your imagination. See yourself as confident, enthusiastic, self-reliant, persistent, and resilient. Know that your desires fuel your passion and desire infused with passion sets into motion the Universal Law of Attraction.

As you continually focus on your self image, you will see that your beliefs, habits and actions conform precisely to your self-image. As you sow in your subconscious mind so shall you reap in your outer world and circumstances. That’s how it works

Remain persistent, independent and decisive in all your actions. You’ll feel your confidence and self-reliance surging up in your soul and moving into your body as you reclaim the courage of your conviction and trust yourself.

Keep a positive attitude at all times and determine to bring forth your best. Intend to give your very best always. And in return you shall reap positive and beneficial results in your body, in your mind and in your life experiences.

Inhale another a full breath up into the frontal lobe of your brain. This activates the Joy Center. Exhale completely, and let your joy freely circulate throughout your being. You’ll feel good in your body, your mind and in your emotions.

Joy infuses your heart with gratitude, and gratitude sets your spirit free. Send a smile of loving approval down to your heart to light up your life and lovingly accept yourself. It’s what you want most of all, to accept yourself.

The goal of meditation is to have greater control over your life. The extraordinary benefit of guided meditation is an experience of greater peace, self-acceptance, and self-reliance. Mastering deep relaxationis a powerful way to regain the exhilarating joy of living fully with less stress and more success.

The Self-Healing Effects of Thyroid Meditation

Demo DiMartile

“Meditation is the art and practice of going within to access the tremendous healing power of your subconscious mind. It is a remarkable tool for realizing your full potential, and healing all aspects of your life. Meditation is the path to wholeness.”

I have been a holistic healer and spiritual teacher for over 40-years, and it is from that experience and perspective that I write this article.

The self-empowering healing effects of meditation have been known and honored in spiritual and healing communities for centuries. Finally, scientific research is validating the extraordinary benefits of meditation for awakening human potential and improving our sense of well-being. Meditation has entered into mainstream consciousness and it is about to change everything as we know it. We are waking up to the fact that our bodies were created with the natural ability to self-heal, self-correct, and restore balance from within. It is by embracing the body-mind connection that we can transform our consciousness,  grow into a greater self-reliance, and be empowered to live a happy, healthy and fulfilling life.

Thyroid Meditation, Transforming Stress Into Well-Being was created for women who suffer from the debilitating effects of thyroid disease. (It can also be used by men.) The purpose of thyroid meditation is to bring your body, mind and spirit into alignment, thereby creating a favorable condition to promote healing from within. As you connect with your inner most self, you can begin to harness the immense healing intelligence of your body’s innate ability to restore balance and harmony to your thyroid function while promoting a greater sense of wellbeing.

If you already know how to meditate, then you have a great advantage to work with your body’s own healing capacity. If you are not skilled with meditation, or have tried and “can’t” meditate, don’t worry. This is an interactive guided meditation and it will assist you on many levels to restore stability to your thyroid condition.

How you begin any endeavor is how you will end up. The right attitude is essential, because this is what you must bring to the meditation: Have a clear intention to heal your thyroid dysfunction, not just manage it, but heal it. Have a strong belief that you can and will heal it, along with an unwavering commitment that you will make the time for yourself to work with the meditation daily.

The music for Thyroid Meditation was composed by Dina Alexander It is beautiful, transformative and deeply healing. Her music has a transcendent quality that will lull you into relaxation, soothe your nerves, reduce stress and uplift your spirits.

A basic breathing technique borrowed from Chi Gong Healing Arts is utilized to tap Universal Life Energy. This life-enhancing breathing method carries the alchemical force of renewal which will revitalize your entire being.

You’ll be guided to open your heart to yourself and infuse your breath with the transformative power of love. Love is the essence of who you truly are, and the most unifying, balancing and healing force there is, even more potent than any medicine. The effects of this synergy are immeasurable, but you will definitely feel it. You know what a mother’s love can do for a child. It will comfort, validate and empower them to belong to themselves! Just think what love can do for you when you take the time to nurture yourself.

The Relaxation/Calming phase of the meditation begins. It deeply relaxes muscle tension, and calms the nervous system, while diminishing significantly pent-up stress and worry. Relaxation quiets the mind, soothes your emotional body and promotes a positive outlook. But the greatest benefit of deep relaxation is that it actually engages your neurotransmitters, releasing serotonin which balances hyperactivity and anxiety, while regulating depression, mood swings and depleted energy levels caused by prescription drugs, caffeine or poor nutrition.

Meditation also boosts GABA and dopamine. GABA acts like a sedative and has a natural calming effect that subdues anxiety. Dopamine positively affects memory issues such as focus, mind fog and forgetfulness. Dopamine is like a natural high that lifts your spirits. It also stimulates motivation, will and desire. Low levels of neurotransmitters are symptomatic of a hypothyroidism. Meditation has the effect of regulating and balancing neurotransmitter levels because it brings the mind-body-spirit into a state of harmony and well-being, both necessary to sustain a healthy thyroid function.

Next you will be guided to eliminate pent up negative psychic tension and congestion. This phase focuses on releasing sadness, frustration, fear, anger, and resentment so that the physical, mental, and emotional components are not at odds with one another. This allows you to experience inner peace, and with regular practice you can create a reliable sense-memory trigger to promote peace of mind, support well-being and move into wholeness.

As you settle into a state of peace, you will effortlessly glide into deeper levels of your subconscious mind. Your Subconscious mind is a storehouse of endless healing power. It is a fertile field where beliefs are sown and miracles are grown. It controls and regulates your entire psyche, all bodily functions, and most importantly the endocrine gland system itself. The subconscious operates on belief and whatever you believe, it will manifest that as your reality.

While in the subconscious state, you’ll align all three levels of mind, so they are working simultaneously in concert with each other. This alignment is extremely powerful. It is the foundation of the body-mind connection and the core principals of Holistic Healing. INTERVIEW with Mary Shomon
All symptoms of thyroid dysfunction on some level point to the underlying emotional root cause which is shame and unworthiness and their impact on stifling the voice. To change any belief, you must do it from a subconscious level. The Conscious mind is your will to choose and your intent to change. The Subconscious mind holds the power to believe that you can change. The Superconscious mind provides the spiritual impetus or will to promote self-reliance as you complete the change.

You’ll then move to adrenal glands. Adrenal burnout has a very negative effect on healthy thyroid function as well as the brain. The excessive amounts of cortisol released due to fear and it’s fight / flight response causes stress and weakens the immune system. The calming effect of meditation releases the hormone, oxytocin, which reduces stress levels while relieving depression and anxiety. Oxytocin fosters euphoric feelings of contentment, intimacy, and security. A simple and effective method is given to revitalize your adrenals glands along with positive affirmations to build confidence and trust in yourself.

The thymus gland regulates the immune function although 70% of your immune system is in the gastrointestinal track. A strong immune system is vital for healthy thyroid metabolism. An unhealthy diet, digestive disorders, and poor absorption of nutrients all impact the thyroid function which converts food into energy. A simple method is given to stimulate the thymus gland along with self-empowering affirmations to promote courage, strength and t-cell production.

Inner peace is vital for thyroid balance as is making peace with your thyroid condition. Liberating affirmations to own your voice, promote self-worth and reclaim your power will help you to invigorate your thyroid function.

Finally, stimulating the pituitary gland, the master gland of the endocrine system, will orchestrate the realignment of all glands to function harmoniously and restore equilibrium. Then you will experience the empowering, self-healing effects of Thyroid Meditation.

Stress: The Grinch That Steals Your Christmas Spirit

christmasThe holiday season is upon us again, fa la la la la, la la la la.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year.”… but also the most stressful.

Whether it is Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, we reconnect with family and friends to celebrate the Season of Rebirth and Peace. The spirit of giving and receiving sets the tone for the occasion.

Your children are filled with excitement and expectation for new toys, smart phones, iPads and the latest technology. You just can’t disappoint them.

You want to please your children, but you worry about overspending or that cutting back may diminish the reward of their priceless smiles.

And Moms…you carry the load for making everybody happy. You set the frenetic pace to get everything done and you are off and running. You start with the endless decisions about what to get everyone on your ever-expanding holiday list. Then worry that you may have left someone out, or repeat what you gave them last year…if you can only remember what you gave them last year.

Next comes all the shopping. Stores, crows, lines, or hours glued to your computer to find the perfect gift. Rushing around to get it all done. You sit in traffic, often going nowhere. Your mind is racing. You are exhausted. But there’s always more to do: wrapping, baking, holiday concerts, office parties.

Finally, though, there’s a moment to relax. That glass of wine or eggnog might calm the savage beast and subdue the frenzy for a few minutes. You may find even that for a moment, you feel the spirit of the season when you hear the familiar refrain of, “Silent Night, Holy Night.”

But it’s hard stay peaceful for very long. Because this season, there’s a cloud of fear hanging over our nation. The looming presence of violence can sap your faith and make you feel unsafe, vulnerable, and all the more anxious and stressed. And then there’s still that tree to decorate, a holiday dinner to prepare and cook, and…relatives.

Next thing you know, your head is spinning, your heart is pounding, and your blood pressure and adrenaline levels are through the roof. When you do go to bed, you can’t sleep – your head is spinning. So you get up the next day and keep on going… running on empty.

Maxed out, stressed out, wound tight but still upright…barely… your enthusiasm has run out. It becomes impossible to be in the moment.

It is then that you realize that the real “Grinch that stole Christmas” in today’s world is STRESS.

The bottom line? The holidays are about presence – not presents.

But how DO you manage to stay present, and to keep your spirit of peace and joy alive throughout the holidays

Before the holidays, is the time to set the right tone. How can you do that? Some ideas:

  • Ask for help! Remove your supermom cape and keep it off.
  • Determine to lighten your load and stick to it.
  • Delegate and share your responsibilities with family and friends.
  • Replace stressful driving, lines and traffic by shopping online.
  • Engage your whole family in decorating the tree and home.
  • Set a reasonable menu for your holiday dinner. You don’t need a turkey, ham, AND a “roast beast!”
  • Ask everyone joining you for dinner to bring side dishes and desserts.

Throughout the holidays, it’s also essential that you take time out to relax, unwind and bring forth your very best. Some proven ways:

  • Take a yoga class and stretch out instead of stressing out.
  • Exercise: Run, walk, swim, or go to the gym.
  • Meditate: Meditation restores inner peace and allows you to come home to yourself. You’ll be more focused and energized.

Before gatherings, try visualizing a celebration filled with love and laughter. And try these other ideas to help keep the tone joyful and positive:

  • Celebrate the joy of being present as well as opening the presents.
  • Play holiday background music and sing holiday songs together.
  • Stay connected. Limit discussions of politics, negative news and “what’s
    wrong with the world.”
  • No cellphones, unless it’s a group call to loved ones who can’t be there.
  • Be mindful that you don’t have to agree on anything to be kind to one another.
  • Feel the love and be grateful for having one another.

(My secret tip: hang lots of mistletoe and send all arguments there to be resolved!)

This holiday season, be the peace and love, and count your blessings!

A very Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah to all.

Meditation: A Way to Enhance Thyroid Awareness from the Inside Out

Holtorf Medical Group is a network of practices that focus on achieving healthy hormonal balance. Founded by Dr. Kent Holtorf, the practices specialize in helping thyroid patients — as well as people with adrenal, sex hormone, and other imbalances — get back to a place of good health and balance.

They did an excellent article, in honor of Thyroid Awareness Month, that focuses on the role that meditation can play in overall health. The piece begins:

“January is Thyroid Awareness Month – a month typically focused on promoting increased visibility and awareness of thyroid issues. But what if during this Thyroid Awareness Month, in addition to helping spread the word and make more people aware of thyroid disease, thyroid patients also took the opportunity to turn their focus inward? One way to accomplish this inward focus is meditation….
